Bell-ringer: A cinquain is a five-line poem that follows a distinct pattern. Write one cinquain using the format below. Your cinquain can either be about you or a character from your favorite book, TV show, video game, or movie.

Follow the format below.

Line2: Two adjectives                                                                       Thoughtful, Loyal

Line 4: A phrase                                                                                     Stay Gold

Research Activity:

Choose a poet from the list and answer the questions below about him or her: Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Edgar Allan Poe, Langston Hughes, Sylvia Plath, Shel Silverstein, Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Sara Teasdale

1. When and where was this poet born?
2. Describe the poet's family?
3. Write five important events from the poet's life. Be detailed enough that I have a good idea about this person's life. A few words for each event will not be sufficient.
4. When and where did this person die?
5. Find and read three poems from this poet. Write a three sentence summary of each poem.

When you are finished, put this in the tray. Then you may work on your poetry project. The analysis charts are on table #2.
