5.2-Bell-ringer, "I am Nobody-Who are you?," I Am Poem DIrections

Bell-ringer: Write about the prompt below.
Prompt: Next year, a new herd of sixth graders will roam the halls of Edison. They have no idea what they are about to get themselves into. For this bell-ringer, you should write five things that these new students should know or do to make their lives better here at Edison. Try to keep most of the five things you write down positive.

I’m Nobody! Who are you?
Are you – Nobody – too?
Then there’s a pair of us!
Don’t tell! they’d advertise – you know!

How dreary – to be – Somebody!
How public – like a Frog –
To tell one’s name – the livelong June –
To an admiring Bog!

Writing an “I Am” poem

Avoid using obvious or ordinary descriptions or images to describe yourself, such as, “I am a 15 year old boy with brown hair.”  There are millions of 15 year old boys with brown hair.  Think of things about yourself which are distinctive.

I Am

1st Stanza
I am (two special characteristics you have)
I wonder (something you are actually curious about)
I hear (a sound you frequently hear)
I see (something you frequently see)
I want (an actual desire)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)
2nd Stanza
I understand (something you know is true)
I believe (something you believe in)
I dream (something you actually dream about)
I hope (something you actually hope for)
I am (the first line of the poem repeated)
