9.5- Bell-ringer, Discussion Questions, Spelling Words

Bell-ringer:
Directions: Write the following sentences. Then, define the underlined words using context clues and prior knowledge. 
  1.    Because of the drought, the ground has been consistently arid.
    2.   The aroma from the bakery entering our noses made our mouths water.
    3.   In the jungle, it was hard for the soldiers to see the enemy assailants waiting to strike.
    4.   The witness attested that the evidence was in fact true.
    5.   Her quiet voice is barely audible in this noisy classroom


    Chapters 1-3 Discussion Questions
Answer the following questions with complete sentences. Make sure to answer the questions fully with complete sentences. Have I mentioned to answer with complete sentences?

Chapter One
1.  Describe Ponyboy, Darry, Dally, and Johnny.   

2.  Who are the Socials?  Who are the Greasers? (I am not looking for a list of names but characteristics.)

3.  How do Ponyboy's relationships with Darry and Sodapop differ?  Explain.

4.  Why is the 'gang' important to Johnny?

5.  Do you think Darry loves Ponyboy?  Why does he treat Ponyboy the way he does?

1.  Who are Cherry and Marcia? Why do they hang-out with greaser boys at the Dingo?

2.  Why doesn't Ponyboy like referring to Sodapop as a dropout?
